Utopia is known to be an imaginary community that possesses nearly perfect qualities for its population. Although, people did not name or define this idea until the 15th century. The ambition to live in such a society has always motivated every civilization.

We have been striving to attain this essence of an ideal place to live in for generations, moreover, all the research and understanding only made it look closer to an abstract than to reality. The harder we try, the farther we drift off from utopia. There are too many parameters involved.

A concept often described as an imaginary place, ‘Utopia’ can be very rational. At some point in our lives, we all might have been a part of it, often failing to realise it. When a new civilization or community is being built, during development there will always come a time when everything is balanced – resources and services just enough to cater for the population living in it. Staying locked in that ratio could be a crucial principle to attain this ‘No place’

Imagine blowing a water bubble. If we blow too little, the bubble might not be big enough to play with. On the contrary, If we blow too much we risk bursting it. Utopia is as delicate as that water bubble. We need to understand that it is not always about this constant need for growth, more often than not it comes down to knowing when to stop. Either we keep growing until we run out of land or space, or we demolish the obsolete, reuse, rebuild and renew.

It is important to have this ambition of attaining utopia rooted in our collective consciousness, because when you think of it, all it is, is a template. A template that moulds our resources for a greater purpose. A temple that weaves the threads of sustainability, economy, politics, nature and history into a single fabric.

‘Studio M A R U’ is the machine built to manufacture this fabric that we can one day live on.
